Pathfinder Wendigo

Pathfinder Battles—Rise of the Runelords: Wendigo miniature. Manufacturer: WizKids/NECA. 2012. Pathfinder Battles prepainted miniatures set from Paizo Publishing and WizKids.

The above image is how the original miniature looked, since it was a pre painted miniature. Well that was okay. However this is what it was based on the image found in Pathfinder Bestiary 2.

Well, I decided that it required a re paint. Here are my efforts.

Here is one to show the scale of the Wendigo compared to a 28mm human size miniature.

Finally the Wendigo in its correct environment.

Citadel miniature C04 Thief - Punk Thief

Citadel miniatures (formerly GW) C04 Thief, 1984. I bought this year on eBay. A thief miniature of it's times, the early 80's, when punk was still around.

The miniature appeared in "The Second Citadel Compendium" in 1984.

Cover artwork

As you can see it's the first miniature, in the above illustration. Since it's an 80's miniature, with a huge punk influence. I had to paint an anarchy symbol as well as a pink Mohawk. It just had to be done!

Mithril Miniatures Lord of the Rings M324a

Mithril Miniatures. Lord of the Rings M324a. Female vampire, Carangil. 1994

Carangil is a Sindarin princess from Mirkwood, captured and enslaved first in Dol Guldur then given as a "toy" for Miruimor in Thuringwathost. Though submissive she waits for her hour to escape and strike down her sorceress slaver.

I used this miniature as a slave/prisoner miniature.

Reaper Miniatures 14536: Varaug, Orc Warlord

Reaper Miniatures 14536: Varaug, Orc Warlord

Well it has been ages since my last post. However this doesn't mean I'll be only posting 1 miniature.

The first post is of Varaug, Orc Warlord sculpted by Bobby Jackson for Reaper Miniatures. This miniature is for 1 of the players in our Pathfinder Campaign. His request was for red armour, hence the colour of the armour.

Red Armour:
  1. Red armour was initially air brushed with Vallejo Game Colour Air Bloody Red over a white primer undercoat.
  2. This was washed with Vallejo Game Colour Red shade 73.206 (new formula). I was happy with the results so far & recommend this wash. First time I used it. It's great.
  3. Then painted by brush Vallejo Game Colour Bloody Red. Obviously leaving the shaded areas & armour joins.
  4. I then highlighted a mixture of Vallejo GC Bloody Red + Vallejo GC Orange Fire.
  5. I continued highlight with more Vallejo GC Orange Fire to the above mixture.
  6. Finally highlighting/ edging with just Vallejo GC Orange Fire.

The orc skin choice of colour palette was courtesy of Andrew Taylor (amazing painter). Thanks for his advice, I went for Foundry "Moss Green" triad for orc flesh. As he said, "  I think it gives a nice dull more believable skin tone!" I totally concur with this. Not a big fan of typical green orcs.

Moss 29
Shade 29AMoss
29B
Light 29C

Orc Skin/Flesh:
  1. Painted Foundry Moss Shade 29A for skin.
  2. Then painted Foundry Moss 29B on top of Moss Shade 29A leaving shaded areas with 29A.
  3. Then painted highlights with Moss Light 29C + a touch of Foundry Moss 29B.
  4. Finally extreme highlights & lining with Foundry Moss Light 29C.

Here is an above photo to show off the bloody axe, better.

Doctor Who Harlequin Yeti Miniatures

Doctor Who Harlequin Yeti Miniatures produced in the 1990's. I decided to diverge away from fantasy on this occasion & paint something simple.

These 2 Yetis are Harlequin miniatures DW 204 - Yeti & DW 209 - Yeti Attacking.

In addition I chose these 2 miniatures because my Doctor (the one I grew up with & have the earliest memories) was the second Doctor, Patrick Troughton. I also recently purchased "Web of Fear" DVD in which the Yetis appear.

Here they are in the snowy wastes

Paints used & method are as follows after a sprayed white undercoat are.

Yeti Fur:
  1. Vallejo Game Colour 43 Beasty Brown painted.
  2. GW Devlan Mud wash.
  3. GW Badab Black wash.
  4. Vallejo Paint 72153 Game Colour Paint, Heavy Brown Extra Opaque + Vallejo Game Colour 43 Beasty Brown, dry brush - heavy.
  5. Vallejo Game Colour 43 Beasty brown dry brush.
  6. Citadel (GW) Snakebite Leather, dry brush.
  7. Vallejo Model Colour 825 German Cam Pale Brown, light dry brush.
  8. Miniature Paint's MP80 Coffee which is kind of like cafĂ© latte or light khaki. Also great alternative for human flesh. A light dry brush again on Yeti fur.
  9. Finally. GW Sepia Wash, a light wash to soften the dry brush & blend it all.
  10. Face fur area was air brushed with black.
  11. Eyes were painted yellow & highlighted with a pale yellow. These colours were lightly dry brushed on the blackened face fur to represent glow & OSL.
Yeti Skin (hands & feet):
  1. Vallejo Model Colour 988 Khaki + Black (any will do, just to darken the khaki). Paint.
  2. GW Badab Black wash.
  3. Vallejo Model Colour 988 Khaki + Black . Paint. Leaving shaded area, i.e. between fingers & toes.
  4. Vallejo Model Colour 988 Khaki + a little Black. Paint wrinkles, since these weren't moulded or cast on the miniatures, which would have been easier.
Finally over exposure on the camera to give a white out.

Superior Models - WL-032, Knight in winged Helmet / Paladin

Well its been a while. I painted this a couple months back. I'm currently use it for my paladin.
It's Superior Models, inc. WL-032, Knight in winged helmet, released in 1980 & sculpted by Mr Ray Lamb. May I say that he has done an excellent job & I love the old school paladin he represents.
