Reaper Miniatures 03566 Valloa, Female Elf Thief

Firstly I have to say Valloa Female Elf Thief is a lovely miniature by Julie Guthrie. Unfortunately very little is know about Julie Guthrie, other than she is one of the most prolific and iconic miniature sculptors in the fantasy and sci-fi genres. She has worked for Grenadier, Ral Partha, Iron Wind, Reaper, Emperor's Choice, and has sculpts being resold through Mega Miniatures. I am assuming she began her career in the early 1980's.  Prior to painting, I rebased her on stonework which I think is more fitting for a thief in town or dungeon. In addition the original base was very small. I have to thank Stone Cold Lead figure painter for his tutorial on this. During the painting phase I took several attempts to get the eyes right. Most other painted versions have used a bright colourful palette. Since this was used in my godson's Pathfinder game by his father as his female elf rogue, I wanted to keep my range of colours veering towards black and dark colours. I'm happy with the results.

Ral Partha German Foot Knight 42-142

Well its a been a while (hence "The Slow Painter" blog ;) ) since I lasted posted. This was due to painting some difficult miniatures & summer holidays.

 

But in chronological order this is what I painted first. This is a repaint from 1980's when I started miniature painting & I much prefer the results now compared to way back then. Its a Ral Partha miniature from the late 1970's from their 1200AD range, and it's Code 42-142 German Foot Knight, swinging mace sculpted by Tom Meier.

 

 

I have the feeling that it might have been placed in another range of Ral Partha or a Citadel fantasy range her in the UK. Miniature bought from Games Workshop, 1 Dalling Road, Hammersmith, London in the early 1980's. Ahh, those were the days, (reminiscing).



Ral Partha Harpy from the late 1970's

Well its a been a long time, since my last post. This is due to the next miniature I will posting next. During the painting of said miniature, I repainted this Ral Partha Harpy miniature, I had since 1980.

 

 

It's OK, however I think the harpies produced/sculpted later by Ral Partha & the Otherworld harpies are much better in my honest opinion.

 

Otherworld miniature's Owlbear

First post of 2014 and I think it's a good one.
It's Otherworld miniature's Owlbear which I'm very happy with, especially the face which was a mixture of layering & wet blending. This was a slow job, because it's a multipart miniature & as always I decided to go for glue & pinning. Beautiful old school miniature owlbear which looks like it came straight out of The Keep of the Borderlands, D&D module. Nice one Richard from Otherworld miniatures. Just love his miniatures by the amazing Paul Muller.

Anyway here is the miniature from various angles and backgrounds.

Coming atcha for a bear hug or owl hug ??

Anirion, Wood Elf Wizard by Reaper Miniatures

Anirion, Wood Elf Wizard was painted for one of the characters (not mine), I'm playing in a Pathfinder campaign. My characters are the ranger & dwarf posted already on this blog.

I modded him to represent a low level elf wizard (named, Lucius). Here is a picture of the original miniature.

Here is my final version.

Otherworld Miniatures Giant Ticks
